Your Choice: Two Ways to Make Geode Bath Bombs
I mentioned I love making my own bath bombs, right? Well, this gorgeous little pink set isn’t the only geode fizzy recipe I’ve shared. Check out this intense large rock geode bath bomb recipe. Talk about jaw-dropping – look at those chunky rocks!
These are made using a cheater ingredient to get those large, show-stopping crystals in the center (in place of the Epsom salts used in this recipe). The best part is that if you like the look, you can make both sets of geode styles at the same time and really take things up a notch.
Tips For Making Homemade Bath Bombs
- Add the moisture slowly. If you add it too fast, you could activate the mixture (we don’t want it to bubble). If you live in a humid environment, you might not need the entire amounts of each liquid called for in the recipe.
- Always add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and not the other way around.
- You can change the smells to fit your liking – use any soap scent or essential oil (or combination) you would like.
- Make sure to over-pack the bath bomb molds and press the mixture in well. Overfill each side and press them tightly together, twisting each side just a bit.
- I know it is excruciating to wait to see these amazing bath bombs, but trust the process and pay attention to the timing. Rushing the drying process and trying to open the mold earlier could result in the entire bath fizzy crumbling. While you can still use it in your bath, it’s not as fun!
- Store in an airtight container. The great thing about making your own bath bombs is that you can store them in a jar at room temperature and save them for later. You can also heat shrink cellophane around each one (perfect for gifting and storing).

How Long Do These DIY Geode Bath Bombs Last?
When making a batch, always check the expiration date on your ingredients to determine how long your geode fizzies will last. Bath bombs will last as long as the shortest expiration date of the ingredients used.
If you can’t remember when you bought items, it’s best to do the smell and texture tests before using them in this recipe. In general, sweet almond oil lasts between 6 months and a year and rubbing alcohol lasts for a few years. Everything else should have a purchase, best before, or expiration date.
Note: You can use any carrier oil you would like (coconut oil and sunflower oil are both good options). Please do not use any food coloring – it can stain bodies and tubs, so stick with mica powder or soap colorants.
How To Make and Use These Geode Bath Bombs
I know it might seem intuitive but just in case… The best way to use them is to fill the tub with warm to hot water and drop in the bath bomb. If you’re making these as a gift, I recommend writing out a tag or card for the bath bombs with a set of simple instructions on usage and storage.

Materials
- ½ cup of baking soda
- ¼ cup of citric acid
- ¼ cup of cornstarch
- ¼ cup epsom salts
- 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
- 1 teaspoon water
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
- 2 teaspoons deep rose mica powder
- 50 squirts of gold edible glitter
- 1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol
Tools
- Bath bomb molds
- Whisk
- Paint brush
Instructions
- In a bowl, add the baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, and Epsom salt. Whisk together and add 1 1/2 tablespoon of mica powder and stir.
- Add the rest of the mica powder to the sea salt and stir.
- Pour the water and the oil into a small jar with a lid, shake to combine, and slowly pour the liquid into the dry mixture. Whisk while combining and remember to add the moisture slowly or you risk activating. The mixture should stay together when squeezed in your hand.
- Overfill one side of the half bomb mold with the mixture.
- Add 1/4 of the colored sea salt to the other half of the bath bomb and add in the bomb mixture. Again, take care to overfill so you have a mound of mixture.
- Press the molds together and twist to combine, joining the edges of the mold together.
- Let the molds set for 3-4 hours and un-mold the bombs. Lightly remove any excess which didn't stick.
- Mix together the edible glitter and rubbing alcohol. Use the paint brush and paint a gold line around where the salt meets the bath bomb.
