The Blacklist: NBC announce return with gripping teaser
This season on NBC’s thrilling crime series, fans have been trying to figure out the second biggest mystery of the series. Thankfully for viewers, they have gained a huge insight into the two-year time jump which revealed Elias Vandyke (played by Lukas Hassel) knew how to find Liz Keen (Megan Boone).

On the recent episode of The Blacklist titled ‘Boukman Baptiste,’ viewers got to find out more about what happened on the night of Liz’s tragic death.
Liz met her untimely demise in the season eight finale and when the show returned there was a major two-year time jump - which season nine slowly unravelled.
As well exploring what the members of the task force had been up to, the show’s return also revealed Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (James Spader) and Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq) had a major falling out.
It was quickly discovered Red blamed Dembe for Liz’s death and claimed he failed to do his job and protect her.

Fans of The Blacklist will be aware of the show’s biggest mystery as it revolved around Red’s real identity, which was exposed in a letter.
Red had entrusted Dembe with the letter to give to Liz after he had died, however, he gave it to her way before.
According to Red, Liz’s murderer Vandyke was present at the coffee shop where the exchange happened and he seized the opportunity.
However, Red soon realised it wasn’t Dembe’s fault and the two put their differences aside.

While Red’s identity still remains one of the biggest mysteries of the series, there is another huge question fans were left wondering.
After episode nine aired and it was discovered Vandyke pulled the trigger, many wondered who told the murderer Liz’s location.
Many fans are convinced Cynthia Panabaker (Deirdre Lovejoy) could’ve been the person to hire Vandyke for the job.
Reddit user Zproberts used the platform to share their theory and wrote: “I don't think Vandyke killed Liz because of any loyalty to Townsend.

“I thought he was just some hired assassin - why would he risk his life for a dead employer that can no longer pay him?
“I think he was hired by Cynthia Panabaker to carry out her burn notice. That sets up a new big bad villain for next season, but it's someone we are familiar with instead of some random new character.
“I could see her trying to eliminate the whole task force and Red, and they end up working together to hunt her down,” they concluded.
Panabaker being the one to hire Vandyke would make sense as she had a burn notice on Liz and wanted to tie up loose ends when it came to the Task Force.

However, the mystery of how she knows who the hitman truly is, is still unanswered as well as how she would’ve gotten into contact with him.
With Panabaker’s new role as Senator, it would make sense for someone else to do her dirty work for her.
Which could also suggest that she is the one behind the fake murder allegations Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) is facing.
The Blacklist season 9 returns to NBC in the USA later this year. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
